What to do this summer?
Fun activities near our schools!
Summer is here and with the warm weather comes with many amazing outdoor activities! Even better, most of these activities are free or cost very little. In this blog post we look at some of the different summer activities for students and how you can spend your free time after class.
Summer in New York is always fun. New York is committed to offering a range of different recreational and cultural events absolutely free! All of these events are easily accessed from any of Zoni’s New York or New Jersey campuses. Below you will find information on some of the most popular events.
Outdoor Movie Screenings
HBO hosted their first outdoor movie screening in Bryant Park in 1992. It was so successful that they became a summer tradition. Movies are screened free and represent all kinds of films from classics to new releases and everything in between – there is literally something for everyone!
These days you can catch a movie at amazing outdoor venues throughout the five boroughs. For example, you can take in the gorgeous Manhattan skyline at Brooklyn Bridge or watch the Coney Island Cyclone while you wait for the movie to start at Flicks on the Beach.
The movies usually start at around 8.30pm, when it starts to get dark. However, it does pay to get there early to find a good spot to sit. This year movies include: Green Book, Crazy Rich Asians, When Harry Met Sally, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Mary Poppins Returns and The Lego Ninjago Movie. Movies are a great way to practice listening to English, so gather a few friends, pack some snacks and a blanket and enjoy this outdoor movie experience.

Let’s go to the beach!
Many of you enjoyed our Zoni field trip to Coney Island. For those of you that missed out, the good news is you still have time! New York public beaches open on Memorial Day weekend and remain open until September 2. There are so many beaches to choose from! For beaches nearby, why not visit Brighton Beach and Coney Island? Both of these places offer you a number of other activities and places to eat and drink. If you feel like going a little further, you can go surfing at Rockaway Beach or check out the Pelham Bay Park’s range of wildlife at Orchard Beach. Lifeguards are on duty at each of these beaches from 10am–6pm for the entire season. Zoni Language Centers cares about your wellbeing and strongly recommends only visiting the beach when Lifeguards are on duty.

Of course, there are lots of great summer activities for students in and around Miami too! Here are a couple of our favorites!
Design District Art Walk
If you like art, then you will like this activity! On the second Saturday of each month, the galleries and showrooms in the Design District open their doors between 7 pm-10 pm for the “Art Walk”. This free activity allows you to see the work of some of the best up-and-coming local artists Miami has to offer. To join the free tour, meet in front of the Fly's Eye Dome on the first floor of Palm Court. (enter at 140 NE 39th Street). Check this website for cancellations, changes or special information.
Find your Zen!
Bayfront and Maurice A. Ferré Parks offer a variety of yoga classes for absolutely FREE! There are classes for all levels - even if you have never tried yoga before, there is a class for you! Classes take place outdoors by the bay and give you a beautiful view to help you relax. To join, you must be at least 18 years old. Pre-registration is essential as places are limited. You also need to bring your own yoga mat, water and towel. More information and the class schedule can be found here.
Take me out to the ball game!
Although this next activity is not free, who can resist America’s favorite pastime in an airconditioned stadium?!? See the Miami Marlins play at Marlins Park in Little Havana. See the Marlins take on the Dodgers, Twins, Phillies or Braves. Tickets start at $10. More information on games and ticket availability can be found here.
Regardless of which Zoni campus you are studying at, there is no reason to be bored after class! Let’s get out and enjoy all of the amazing and (mostly) FREE summer activities for students that are on offer!
